WM advances to Sulphur after another huge road playoff victory
West Monroe softball again shocked the Louisiana sports world on Friday with a 1-0 win at No. 4 St. Amant to advance to the LHSAA Fast Pitch state tournament in Sulphur next week.
West Monroe, the No. 20-seed in these 5A playoffs, has pulled off two huge road wins at No. 13 Destrehan and St. Amant (snapping the Lady Gators 19-game win streak), to prove all doubt wrong about this team’s ability to advance to the state’s biggest stage.
West Monroe (19-14) has won its last two games by a combined 3-0 off incredible pitching by senior Cassidy Rhea and timely hitting.
The Lady Rebels grabbed the lead in the fourth inning on a RBI double by Kennedi Jones that scored Kenzie Greer. Greer reached on a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt that followed.
Although allowing 10 hits, the Lady Rebel defense was tough. St. Amant stranded 10 runners in the game despite having two base runners in three different innings.
West Monroe will next face No. 5 Mandeville at 5 p.m. Friday, April 27 in Sulphur.
