WM golfers shine in Lafayette; WMHS Track & Field head to state finals
It has already been a huge week for West Monroe athletics and there is more to come.
West Monroe finished third in the state at the Division I state golf tournament in Lafayette on Tuesday.
Joey Kirkland shot rounds of 70-69 to win the individual state championship.
West Monroe also got rounds of 77-78 from Porter Tuberville, 80-78 from Jacob Slaughter, 77-82 from James McMahan, 83-87 from John Adam Lengefield.
Byrd, Jesuit and Alexandria finished in the top 3 of the team standings while West Monroe was fourth and ahead of powerhouse teams such as Catholic-BR, Zachary, Brother Martin and Sulphur.
Coming up on Saturday, West Monroe boys and girls track teams will be in action at the LHSAA State Track & Field Championships at Bernie Moore Track at LSU in Baton Rouge.
Kirstin Elrod (1600-meter and 3200-meters), Eden Adams and Garrett Kahmann (Javelin), Michael Hamburg (110-hurdgles, 100-meter dash), and the boys 4x100 relay (Jermyah Gill, Isiah George, Jairus Henry, and Michael Hamburg) will be competing against the best 5A athletes in the state.
